 | Love of Freedom: Brooding splashes of red swathe a young girl holding an empty birdcage. Her doll-like expression, glinting with fauvist colors, is innocent but ambiguous, just as her cage is uncertain as to its captive. |
| Lost in Thought: A young woman in northern rural dress squats in contemplation by a tiny cooking fire, as if this was the first still moment in her day. Her hat hangs on the wall but looks like a full harvest moon. The artist's fine brushwork can be appreciated in the woman's bare hands and feet. The intimate treatment of light draws the spectator into the woman's distant reverie. | |
